ICTs HELP ENGAGE US IN LEARNING
Possibly the hardest thing to do is to really Engage our children in learning.
It is when we do that the they really achieve their learning goals, Bredekamp & Copple (1997) suggests the teacher can take advantage of the children's interests in an area or topic and use this to plan the curriculum, this in turn evokes the child's curiosity in this area. Most children today have an interest in ICTs they will happily spend hours playing games, on their Ipad, so why don't we use this interest to engage them in learning.
One example of how we can do this:
Digital stories created by students are an excellent way of engaging students in their work, technology enables them to create, draw and script their story. In addition, when digital stories are published online, students have the opportunity to share their work with their peers and gain valuable experience in critiquing their own and other students’ work, which can promote gains in emotional intelligence and social learning. Digital Storytelling appeals to students with diverse learning styles and can also foster collaboration when students are able to work in groups, and provides value in enhancing the student experience through personal ownership and accomplishment (Moyles, 2001).
Please follow this link to watch a digital story made by a girl in year 2. This is an excellent example of how Ict's were used to enhance creativity.
This would be considered redefinition in the SAMR model, as creating a digital story and publishing it on the web and collaborating with other students from other schools would not have been possible with the use of ICTs.
